about

Geoff Farina’s acoustic Glorytellers have featured revolving members since 2005, including Mike Castellana (Sara Borges), Gavin
McCarthy (Cul De Sac, Karate), Marco Buccelli (Xenia Rubinos), and Joshua Larue (Mice Parade, The Sorts), but have always centered on
Geoff’s acoustic guitar, earnest vocals, and cerebral songwriting. Glorytellers’ 3rd outing, Current Resident, reflects Geoff’s recent move from Boston to Chicago, and his continued journey into American roots music. The new lineup features Chicago locals Kenneth P.W. Rainey on mandolin and Riley Broach on double bass, as well as the heartfelt violin of Jean Cook, better known for her work with John Langford, Ida, and William Parker. Although some of this quartet’s unique string arrangements would not seem out of place on Norman Blake’s Original Underground Music from the Mysterious South, Glorytellers still echo 90s “indie” bands like Ida, Seam, Codeine, and Bedhead, and never quite betray their 90s indie rock roots.

The 8 songs that constitute Current Resident range from the swift bluegrass of “Barely Born” to the orchestrated rubato moments of “So
Long Before Her Grave”. Jean Cook echoes Terry Riley during the 6 foreboding minutes of “Electric Spire”, and Rainey’s soaring mandolin
gives “You Ain’t On Your Way to Hell” a stark, Appalachian mood. Despite its Americana influences (Geoff teaches music history at DePaul University and frequently performs classic pre-war ragtime and country blues around Chicago), Current Resident is still an indie rock record at heart, with all the introspection and urgency of Karate, the Secret Stars, and Geoff’s solo work.

Damnably Records releases the album digitally, and as a limited edition CD in Europe. Each CD contains details to access two exclusive bonus tracks for download.
Recent Press
“If Farina has learned anything in his 20-plus years as a musician, it’s how to turn the worst parts of life into the greatest art.”
Alternative Press
“There’s no real reason why the indie overground couldn’t lap this up.”
BBC Music
“Farina’s colourful lyrics and subtle vocal melodies really do shine through in these jaunty songs of his”
The Line Of Best Fit
“When Farina is at his best he can paint an evocative picture with a minimum of strokes, either a few pointed lyrical abstractions or a
handful of strums and plucks.”
Pitchfork

The 8 songs that constitute Current Resident will be released digitally, and on limited edition CD via Damnably Records in Europe and Afterhours in Japan.
